Abu Dhabi police have urged motorists to take extra care on Sheikh Zayed Road, as work takes place to increase its capacity.
The two-month project will see the hard shoulder on the right-hand side closed between Al Qurm hotel and Al Saada bridge in both directions.
Police officials say that drivers involved in traffic accidents should pull their vehicles off the road in order to avoid further incidents.
Meanwhile, pedestrian and cycling tracks along Al Qurm Corniche have also been closed for the work.
