Dubai has shut down nine shops, imposed penalties on 18 and issued warnings to 176 others for flouting safety directives issued to combat the spread of COVID-19.
They were reported after Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) in DED carried out inspections across malls and high street markets in Dubai Marina, Satwa, Al Rafaa, Souq Al Kabeer, Karama, Al Fahidi, Al Warqaa, Bani Yas Square, Um Suqeim and Bastakiya, among others.
Wedding planning services, car accessory workshops, mobile phone stores and electronic repair centres were among those that were pulled up.
Officials added that 504 outlets were found to be fully compliant.
They added that most shops did not have social distancing stickers and other precautionary measures in place. Some were even running promotions, despite strict guidelines not to.
Residents are reminded that they can report violations through the Dubai Consumer App, their toll-free number (600545555), or on their website.
