As many as 800 million plastic bags are expected to go out of circulation each year, thanks to a UAE-based retail chain’s latest initiative.
Majid Al Futtaim Retail recently pledged to phase out single-use plastic by 2025 across all its properties.
Their CEO Hani Weiss told Dubai Eye 103.8’s Business Breakfast that it’s a gradual process that requires the support of the public.
He also explains the steps being taken to encourage shoppers to adapt to the changes.
The decision by Majid Al Futtaim will see single-use plastic phased out across the group's 26 malls, 13 hotels, 46 cinemas as well as hundreds of supermarkets.
