His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday announced the launch of the national railway network.
He said that the network connects four major ports in the country and seven logistical areas, and transports 60 million tonnes of goods annually.
"It was accomplished with the support of 180 federal and local authorities who collaborated for over 133 million hours, led by Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed," Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.
The network is expected to have an estimated economic impact of AED 200 billion by 2050.
