Rabdan Academy has launched a pioneering programme aimed at training Emirati translators in the fields of defence and security.
The Specialised Translation in Defence and Security programme, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, is designed to provide participants with the necessary expertise in simultaneous and consecutive interpretation within military and security contexts.

The programme is accredited for 40 hours of training, which are recognised within the UAE’s national qualifications framework.
This initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of UAE nationals, equipping them with the skills required for translating sensitive military and security terminology, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in high-stakes environments.
Dr. Muna Abdulla Balfaqeeh, Director of Vocational Education Affairs at Rabdan Academy, highlighted that the new programme supports the integration of advanced technologies into the defence and security industries. “This programme ensures that military training is accurately and professionally communicated, transferring global experiences while maintaining strict confidentiality,” said Dr. Balfaqeeh. She added that training Emirati nationals in this critical field aligns with Rabdan Academy’s broader mission to advance professional development across safety, security, defence, emergency preparedness, and crisis management sectors.
The five-month programme includes a mix of theoretical coursework and practical field training. Participants will study subjects like English for military purposes, military language in the UAE context, and Arabic translation skills.
They will also engage in hands-on interpretation exercises and shadow experienced interpreters working in the military and security sectors to gain real-world experience.
The programme is open to UAE nationals holding a bachelor’s degree or higher, with specific eligibility criteria. Participants will be trained to meet the high standards required in military and security translation, which plays a vital role in enhancing communication and cooperation across the defence sector.
