The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to construct a bridge connecting Dubai Islands and Bur Dubai.
The bridge, spanning 1.42 km will have four lanes in each direction with a total capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.
Dubai Islands will have direct entry and exit points on the Bur Dubai side through the new bridge stretching across the Creek between the Infinity Bridge and the Port Rashid Development Project.
A dedicated track for cyclists and pedestrians will be built along the bridge, while the project will also feature surface roads extending nearly 2 km to connect existing roads from both ends of Dubai Islands and Bur Dubai.
The project is set to be completed in 2026.
An agreement for the construction of the project was formalised on Wednesday by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nakheel.
#RTA signed an agreement with NAKHEEL, the world's leading real estate developer, to construct direct entrances and exits to the Dubai Islands project from Bur Dubai. The initiative is part of the broader Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which is being implemented by the RTA at an estimated cost of AED 5.3 billion.
It involves the construction of 15 intersections spanning 13 km in total. Due to its massive scope, the project has been split into five phases.
The Corridor serves Deira and Bur Dubai in addition to several development projects such as Dubai Islands, Dubai Seafront, Dubai Maritime City and Port Rashid.
