As many as 1,040 prisoners in Dubai have been pardoned ahead of the UAE's 51st National Day.
Their release was ordered by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Dubai Public Prosecution has started coordinating with Dubai Police to implement the directive.
Essam Issa Al Humaidan, Attorney General of Dubai, said that Sheikh Mohammed’s order reflects his keenness to give the convicted inmates a chance to start a new life and ease their families’ hardship, as well as provide them the opportunity to reintegrate into society.
