Abu Dhabi has begun supervised road trials of Tesla’s advanced self‑driving technology, marking the first tests of their kind in the emirate.
The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) says the trials, supported by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, are designed to assess how the system performs in real traffic conditions and to confirm its safety readiness.
The tests are being carried out in coordination with the UAE Cabinet’s Legislation Lab, as part of efforts to support innovation within approved regulatory frameworks and to develop a model for evaluating autonomous driving technologies in the region.
Officials say the programme will help gather essential data before any future expansion of the technology’s use.
They add that the initiative aims to strike a balance between encouraging smart mobility solutions and ensuring the highest safety standards for road users.
The trials form part of Abu Dhabi’s broader push to assess advanced mobility innovations and prepare for the safe adoption of future transport technologies.
